This is a job for...Professionals! (Part 1)

There are something that are beyond Jeff and my limited skills. Things that involve climbing around on our three story house definitely fit in that category (OK, technically it's 2.5, but when I think about climbing around up there it seems like 3). We had some trouble with the facia (trim boards along the edge of the roof that the gutters are affixed to) and the soffits (the covering on the underside of the roof).

The facia was rotten along our roofline, causing the gutter to sag and "bathtub." (Meaning all of the water would collect in the gutter rather than running out the downspout. The soffits were missing in several places, giving the house a sloppy appearance. The house also had problems with carpenter bees eating holes in our porch trim/facia. To top it off as Jeff and I were examining these issues one afternoon, we realized where the gable (the part with the 4 little windows) met the roof line was open, and not sealed off to prevent critters like squirrels from gaining access. (Note: This last little item is what led to my big attic cleaning and reorganization to make sure there were no signed of critters up there.)


We had Rochester Custom Exteriors come out and take care off all of the problems. It was an expense, but it had to be done. We want the only critters in this house to be those of a feline variety! Here they are hard at work:

A subtle improvement, but it soooooo much better! Yes, I know the porch beam needs paint. (Can you find the cat? :-p )

This last comparison needs a better after. I will try to catch it over the weekend. More to come on the dishwasher and an impromptu backyard change.
