We went to Maryland for Thanksgiving and decided to get back to the house hunt when we returned. None of the properties we had seen made us want to take the plunge (other than the first one which got away). I continued my online vigil checking the Nothnagle and Zillow websites daily. A new property came on the market and caught my eye, not only because so few properties go on the market between Thanksgiving and New Years, but because it was hitting a lot of the must haves and wish list items including: hardwood floors, fireplace, formal dining room, gum wood trim, walk up attic, extra half bath, dishwasher, etc. I check on the listing daily to make sure it was still available, and Jeff and I made an appointment to see it when we got back into town.
It was a dark November night when we pull up in front of the house. From
the tiled entry to the leaded glass door leading into the hardwood
floors of the living room and it's fireplace, I knew things were going
in the right direction. The trim was still the natural wood, untouched
by the painted trim fad of the mid-20th Century that lock lovely wood
grains behind bland white.
The breakfast nook, only added points in the "yes" category.
The spacious landing led into 3 nicely sized bedrooms. One of which had an enclosed porch, quickly hypothetically "claimed" for a historian's double office. Could things get any better? They, couldn't, because that was when we saw the bathroom....
Oh yes fair reader, that pink tiles goes around all of the bathroom walls with complimentary pink floor. And that turquoise green tub has the sink to match. Nothing is perfect, but a pink and turquoise bathroom, plus some cracked tiles in the shower, what is a home shopper to do???
Jeff and I finished our tour with a very old furnace and hot water heater. Bubble burst, we departed, with the house in the back of our minds.
